Hello and welcome to the November edition of the smoking-meat.com monthly newsletter. I am your host, Jeff Phillips, and I will endeavor to keep the newsletter short and to the point with as much good info as possible without boring you to death with small details.
By the way.. we have been running a poll to find out what woods are used in what states of the US. If you have not submitted an entry please do so. I have received hundreds and hundreds of submissions and we will be posting the results very soon;-)
Now let's get straight to it!
This is the lineup for this month:

Smoking A Turkey for Thanksgiving
Well, it seems that another Thanksgiving is upon us... my favorite holiday for many reasons. I look forward to all of the great food that seems to present itself around this time of year and the atmosphere just seems to take on a new face.... everyone seems so chipper, especially since the air is a little more crisp for most of us in the U.S.
For those of us who smoke (meat that is) it is a time to start thinking about smoking the big bird. If you have not taken the time to read the smoking turkey page on the Smoking-meat.com website then I recommend that you read it and then decide how you want to go forward.
If this is your first time then I suggest that you buy two turkeys... smoke one and cook the other one in a traditional manner.
This removes a lot of the stress and worry and gives you an "out" in case something doesn't turn out the way you planned. Most likely, the turkey will be excellent and will get eaten before the other.
For those of you who are veteran turkey smokers then you know what to do... however, allow me to encourage you to try something different... even if it is only something as simple as a new kind of wood mixed in. Just Do It!!!
Turkey Smoking Contest!!!
Anyone up for a contest? I always am. Its my competitive nature I suppose. Anyway... from now until December 10th we will be holding a contest for the best turkey smoking picture series. Here is the deal: You smoke a turkey and take pictures of the entire process from out of the package to sitting on the table all carved up.
Our designated judges will look at each series of pictures and decide which one is the best.
The winner will have their picture series posted on the website and will recieve a Smoking-Meat.com t-shirt.
Send your picture series along with a few paragraphs telling me why yours are better, t-shirt size and mailing address in case you are a winner to BestTurkeyPics@smoking-meat.com
